OUR STAR Patsy Ryan Current/previous roles: Coaches Assistant Duration with Club: I joined the club as a player in 1965 and continued to play and coach until 1978. I returned in the 2000s as a Coach, Umpire and Umpire Convenor. What did you want to be when you grew up: Most probably a teacher or a worker at the Cannon Hill Sale Yards with my father. The yards closed in the 1990s. If you had to change your name, what would it be and why: I like the name Ruby, too late for me to change mine so I called my dog Ruby. What is the craziest thing you’ve seen another Star do: It was while I was still playing for Stars and we had changed the uniform to a skirt and polo top. The skirt was fastened at the waist with a metal clip. A short time into the game our GD, a rather big lady, had a mishap with the clip and her skirt fell down. Well she screamed and laughed and we all laughed as she continued to play with one hand holding up her skirt and calling for the ball with the other. What quote or phrase that people say do you hate: Its not something that other people say but something I often say, "fair dinkum". I try to stop my self but "fair dinkum" its hard. Who do you love to beat: I love to beat the NSW Blues in the State of Origin, and that's fair dinkum! If you could play any sport professionally, what would it be : That would be golf for sure, after netball of course. What’s your very minor superpower: I can watch television with my eyes closed. Some people may call that sleeping , what ever!! What was the dumbest way you’ve been injured: I jumped from the top of a high fence once, thinking I would land like a butterfly. Instead I fell like a bag of cement, and landed on my head and broke my wrist. Wont be trying that again soon.

A minimum of 2 Grading sessions (maximum of 4) for each competitive (11 years and over) age group will consist of a number of 10-minute games over a 1-2 hour period. All sessions are overseen by Grading Panel selectors. WHY ARE WE GRADING 10 YEAR OLDS? Grading Light of players turning 10 years ensures each team has suitable skill levels in each area of court. 10 year olds will only be required to attend 1 session which provides them with an introduction into the grading process without the pressure of having to perform. For players aged 11 and over, Selectors are looking players across the following areas; footwork, ball-handling, speed and agility, body control, attacking skills, game perception and sense, defending. The panel assess these skills at a level suitable for the age group being graded. Selectors are also look for players who demonstrate sportsmanship and a positive attitude, good fitness and versatility. An ability to fit into various team combinations to promote team balance is essential. Ability alone does not necessarily determine where a player is graded. ARE THE GRADING SESSIONS COMPULSORY TO ATTEND? Yes, attendance for all players aged 10 to 17 years is compulsory and non-attendance may impact on team selection. If a player is unable to attend any sessions, that player will be placed in a team at the discretion of the Grading Panel. To ensure accurate placement, players aged 11 and over should attend a minimum of two grading sessions. Opens age division players (18+) are graded at the discretion of the Grading Panel only. WHAT HAPPENS IF A PLAYER CANNOT ATTEND A GRADING SESSION?
